The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) plans to install more CCTV cameras with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to expand its No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) coverage to unmonitored areas.
MMDA Traffic Enforcement Director Victor Maria D. Nuñez stated that these AI-powered CCTVs will augment the deployment of traffic enforcers in areas without surveillance.
The NCAP is seen as a solution to help reduce traffic during the planned rehabilitation of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) by mid-June.
The MMDA resumed enforcing the NCAP on Monday after the Supreme Court partially lifted its 2022 order that halted its implementation.
More than 1,000 violations were logged on Monday, a decrease from over 3,000 violations recorded last week.
