MMDA hopes to build rainwater catch basins this year
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) aims to start building rainwater catchment basins in Manila and Quezon City this year to combat flooding.
Potential sites include Camp Aguinaldo, UST complex, Rizal Park, Liwasang Bonifacio, and Remedios Circle.
The rainwater impounding facility (RIF) at Camp Aguinaldo is planned for construction beneath the golf course, with an area of 4,500 square meters and a depth of nine meters, capable of holding 46,000 cubic meters of rainwater.
A similar RIF is proposed for the UST football field, which could also accommodate a 400-vehicle parking area.
MMDA Chairman Romando Artes has initiated discussions with UST officials and presented the proposal to Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and UST Facilities Management Office director Fr. Dexter Austria.
Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman has also expressed support for the project.
