MMDA deploys body cameras for NCAP, forms STAG unit

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has launched the use of body-worn cameras for its No Contact Apprehension Program (NCAP), initially deploying 22 units.

A new unit called the Swift Traffic Action Group (STAG), composed of 100 personnel, has been formed to specifically address obstruction and illegal parking violations.

These STAG personnel, who patrol on motorcycles without tow trucks, will be equipped with body cameras to record their operations.

MMDA chairperson Romando Artes stated that the body cameras will streamline the apprehension process, minimizing direct interaction with drivers.

Violators will receive a notice of violation, which will then be manually reviewed and validated at the MMDA's command center.

Validated violations will result in the violator receiving a ticket via text message or email within 24 hours, including QR codes linking to video footage of the violation and a portal for filing complaints online.
