MMC bans outdoor exercise in NCR until Aug 20

The Metro Manila Council (MMC) has prohibited outdoor exercise in the National Capital Region (NCR) until August 20, 2021, during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez, who is also the MMC Chairman, stated that the ban aims to prevent gatherings during exercise, especially with the threat of the Delta variant.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar directed police offices in the NCR to strictly enforce this prohibition.

Eleazar emphasized the implementation of the stricter policy is for the welfare of the public, considering new reports on many children contracting COVID-19.

He appealed to Metro Manila residents to follow the protocols and cooperate with authorities, warning that non-compliance could lead to an extended ECQ.

The mayors will review the policy after the 10-day period, and President Rodrigo Duterte has deferred to the decision of the local government units.
