Michelle Dee gets mambabatok tattoo from Apo Whang Od

Michelle Dee, Miss Universe Philippines 2023, fulfilled a long-held dream by getting tattooed by the legendary 106-year-old mambabatok, Apo Whang Od, in Buscalan Village, Kalinga.

Dee shared the experience through an Instagram Reel, showcasing her adorned in traditional Filipino attire while receiving Apo Whang Od's signature three-dot tattoo.

In a new development, Dee also "crowned" Apo Whang Od with a shirt featuring "Filipinas 2023" and "MMD," and presented her with a sketch of Dee's Miss Universe gown inspired by the mambabatok.

She expressed her excitement, calling it an "amazing way" to start May and her final days as queen.

This encounter marks a significant moment for Dee, who has previously paid homage to Apo Whang Od through her national costumes and expressed deep admiration for her role in cultural preservation.

Apo Whang Od, recognized as an "amazing symbol of cultural preservation" and National Treasure, was recently honored by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. with the Outstanding Government Workers of 2023 and Presidential Medal of Merit awards.

Dee is preparing to crown her successor at the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 pageant on May 22.
