MGen inaugurates 80MW solar power plant in Rizal

Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen) has inaugurated its third solar power plant in recent weeks, an 80-megawatt facility in Baras, Rizal.

The expanded Baras Solar, the first and only solar farm in Rizal, is expected to power over 154,000 homes.

The Rizal facility's expansion, with Phase 1 activated in 2023 and Phase 2 in 2024, adds to MGen's renewable energy capacity.

MGen President and CEO Dennis Jordan stated that the expansion helps communities, protects the environment, and contributes to clean energy goals.

He also noted that the project reflects MGen's commitment to building a greener future while bringing opportunities to the people of Baras and Rizal.

Energy Undersecretary Rowena Cristina Guevara highlighted that renewable energy projects like this foster economic growth and create employment.

In the construction phase alone, MGen employed over 1,600 local workers, including 300 women.
