Metro Manila to remain GCQ if health protocols observed

Metro Manila will not be placed back under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) as long as health protocols are strictly observed, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya stated that the National Capital Region's (NCR) case doubling time and critical care infrastructure utilization rate are currently acceptable.

Malaya urged the public to remain vigilant and continue adhering to quarantine regulations despite the current situation.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año humorously suggested that wearing face masks can make everyone look equally good and may continue to be a practice even after a COVID-19 vaccine becomes available.

Año also noted that some Western nurses initially rejected wearing masks due to inconvenience, a sentiment he sadly observed in some Filipinos who then became virus carriers.

The DILG stressed the importance of following quarantine guidelines and respecting others' right to be free from COVID-19.
