DA intensifies monitoring on pork MSRP compliance

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is intensifying its monitoring to enforce the Maximum Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for pork, set at P380 per kilo for liempo and P350 per kilo for kasim and pigue in wet markets across the National Capital Region.

The DA implemented the MSRP on March 10 to address escalating retail prices, which had previously reached over P400 to P440 per kilo.

Pork producers have cooperated by lowering their farmgate prices to help stabilize the market.

Despite efforts, only 39% of retailers are complying with the MSRP, with many still selling above mandated rates three weeks after implementation.

Retailers cite difficulties in selling less popular pork cuts as a reason for non-compliance.

The DA is considering requiring retailers to display supplier details to identify those selling at higher rates and is examining the supply chain to address non-compliance in markets like Pritil, Trabajo, and Cartimar.

As of March 31, 2025, prices for kasim and pigue ranged from P340.00 to P400.00 per kilo, and liempo from P350.00 to P470.00 per kilo in Metro Manila markets.
