Class suspensions across Luzon due to habagat, Typhoon Carina

Numerous local government units across Luzon have suspended classes for Wednesday, July 24, 2024, due to the enhanced Southwest Monsoon, locally known as habagat, and Typhoon Carina.

The southwest monsoon is being enhanced by Typhoon Carina and is forecast to bring moderate to intense rains over various areas in the western portion of Luzon from Tuesday through Thursday, PAGASA said.

Typhoon Carina maintains strength and is heading for Taiwan, while the habagat has caused the deaths of 8 people and affected over 179,000 families, according to the NDRRMC.

All levels, both public and private schools, in various cities within Metro Manila, including Caloocan, Las Piñas, Malabon, Navotas, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, and San Juan, have cancelled classes.

Several provinces, including Cavite, Bataan, Baguio City, Laguna, Batangas, Bulacan, Ilocos Sur, Rizal, and Pangasinan, have also announced class suspensions for all levels.

Specific cities in Bulacan (Bulakan), Ilocos Sur (Magsingal), Rizal (Morong, Binangonan, Tanay), and Pangasinan (Manaoag) are among the affected areas with specific levels of schooling suspended.

Batanes has suspended government work until July 25 in addition to class cancellations.

The suspensions are a precautionary measure against the inclement weather brought by the Southwest Monsoon.
