Metro Manila mayors to finalize no-parking scheme by September

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla urged Metro Manila mayors to finalize a unified no-parking scheme by September 1, aiming to make the capital region more livable.

One proposal being studied is designating all public streets as no-parking zones during rush hour.

However, San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora, who also heads the Metro Manila Council (MMC), stated that a total ban on street parking across Metro Manila is not feasible.

Zamora suggested that each city should instead identify specific roads where one-side parking or parking during certain hours, like nighttime, may be allowed.

A technical working group will be formed to consolidate recommendations from each local government unit, with a firm position expected by September.

The Lawyers for Commuters Safety and Protection (LCSP) and the Federation of Free Workers (FFW) support a total ban on street parking to alleviate traffic congestion and make Metro Manila safer.
