Metro Manila COVID-19 positivity rate jumps to 18.8%

Metro Manila's weekly COVID-19 positivity rate surged to 18.8 percent as of May 1, a significant increase from 11.7 percent a week prior, according to OCTA Research.

This new positivity rate is more than triple the World Health Organization's recommended threshold of 5 percent.

Despite the rise in infections, the Department of Health (DOH) stated that the country's healthcare utilization rate remains at low risk due to widespread immunity from vaccination.

Acting Health Chief Maria Rosario Vergeire assured the public that the current increase in cases is not leading to a proportional rise in hospital admissions, severe critical cases, or deaths.

The Philippines recorded 4,456 COVID-19 infections last week, with a daily average 42% higher than the previous week, and only 22 severe and critical cases.
