Meralco partners with Itron for smart grid deployment

Meralco has partnered with US-based Itron, Inc. to deploy its Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) program, aiming to establish a smart grid.

The collaboration will enable Meralco to implement Itron's Gen5 AMI solution, facilitating real-time, two-way communication for improved outage response and billing accuracy.

The initial phase of the rollout will cover 73,000 endpoints in Metro Manila, with a multi-year expansion planned for Meralco's entire service area.

Meralco believes this smart grid initiative will support the country's digital economy advancement and enhance customer service through better billing, energy usage visibility, and faster outage response.

This partnership is seen as a foundational step towards a smarter and more sustainable energy future for the Philippines.
