Meralco downs NorthPort, nears PBA quarterfinals

Meralco secured a commanding 114-104 victory over NorthPort, significantly boosting their chances of reaching the PBA Season 49 Governors' Cup quarterfinals.

The Bolts capitalized on the early departure of NorthPort's import, Venky Jois, who sustained a suspected right foot injury late in the first quarter.

Allen Durham anchored Meralco's offense with 23 points and 13 rebounds, supported by a strong performance from the backcourt.

Chris Newsome and Chris Banchero combined for 15 crucial points in the final quarter, sealing the win for Meralco.

Newsome achieved a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Banchero contributed 19 points, including three three-pointers.

Meralco's bench also provided significant support, with CJ Cansino scoring 12 points, including four-point plays, Brandon Bates adding 12, and Anjo Caram chipping in 11.

This win allowed Meralco to recover from their previous loss to TNT and improve their record to 6-2 in Group A.

Arvin Tolentino led NorthPort's efforts with 28 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, but his performance was not enough to overcome the absence of Jois.
