Meralco clinches playoff berth after beating Ginebra

Meralco defeated Barangay Ginebra, 82-73, in the PBA Philippine Cup, ending their elimination round campaign with a three-game winning streak and securing at least a playoff appearance.

The Bolts rallied past the Gin Kings late, unleashing an eight-unanswered-point run in the final four minutes to secure the victory.

Chris Newsome led Meralco with 15 points and six rebounds, while Bong Quinto, Chris Banchero, and Cliff Hodge also contributed significantly in the crucial run.

The win moved Meralco to a 6-5 record, while Barangay Ginebra's bid for a top four finish is now in question as they dropped to 5-3.

Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone was ejected from the game after receiving two technical fouls for continuous complaining.

A win tonight would have officially clinched Ginebra a playoff berth.
