Filipina Mary Jane Veloso is returning to the Philippines on December 18 after being detained in Indonesia for 14 years for drug trafficking, following a prison transfer agreement between the two countries.
Her execution was stayed in April 2015, and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. described her homecoming as "the fruit of more than a decade of persistent discussions, consultations and diplomacy."
Veloso, who was sentenced to death for drug trafficking after being caught with 2.6 kilos of heroin in Indonesia in 2010, will board a commercial flight and upon arrival at around 6 a.m. will be brought directly to the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City for a five-day quarantine.
Her parents are hoping President Marcos Jr. will grant their Christmas wish for clemency for their daughter upon her return.
While Malacañang has yet to comment on Veloso's status upon her return, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated that the President's priority is to have her repatriated without delay.
Veloso will meet members of the media at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta before her departure.
