Marikina COVID-19 testing center to open Tuesday after DOH inspection

The Marikina city COVID-19 testing center is anticipated to receive its accreditation on Tuesday, April 21, allowing it to commence operations.

Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III visited the facility on April 17 and lauded it as one of the best laboratories he has seen, praising its construction, layout, and equipment.

Duque expressed hope that the Marikina testing center will serve as a model for other local government units in enhancing their testing capacities.

The opening of the center was previously delayed due to the DOH's requirement for further enhancements to meet biosafety and biosecurity standards, and the need to relocate the facility.

The new testing center, equipped with state-of-the-art machinery including PCR machines and biosafety cabinets, has the capacity to test 400 to 500 samples daily.

Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro highlighted the center's contribution to the national target of 8,000 tests per day, emphasizing mass testing as crucial to flattening the curve of COVID-19 spread.

The facility's health personnel are currently completing their training, which was expedited with the intervention of the Inter-agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).
