Marcos orders floor price for palay to shield farmers

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the establishment of a floor price for palay to protect farmers from unscrupulous traders.

The President instructed the Department of Agriculture (DA) to collaborate with the Office of the Executive Secretary and Senator Francis Pangilinan's office to draft an executive order for this purpose.

Marcos also directed the full implementation of the Sagip Saka Act of 2019 to support farmers and the Benteng Bigas program, which aims to provide rice at P20 per kilo.

The DA is tasked with drafting an executive order to ensure the complete implementation of the Sagip Saka Act, enabling government entities and LGUs to purchase agricultural products directly from farmers and fisherfolk.

Furthermore, the President ordered a review of the National Food Authority's charter and proposed amendments to the Agricultural Tariffication Law of 2024 to enhance farmer support services.
