PBBM on Duterte family's Senate bids: 'We are a free country'

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. stated that the Philippines is a free country when asked about the reported Senate bids of former President Rodrigo Duterte and his sons.

He commented that political plans and alliances will only become clear when candidacies are filed in October.

Vice President Sara Duterte announced that her father, Rodrigo Duterte, and her brothers, Davao Rep. Paolo Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, are intending to run for senator in the 2025 midterm elections.

The Vice President also disclosed that Sebastian Duterte will be running for president in 2028.

President Marcos added that the Vice President's resignation from his Cabinet does not change anything for the Uniteam.

He explained that the PDP party was never part of the Uniteam, even during the elections.

Some members of the Duterte family have become critics of the administration, with Sebastian Duterte even calling for Marcos' resignation, and the former president accusing Marcos of being a drug user.
