PBBM vows to level up response to Kanlaon volcano unrest

President Marcos vowed that the government will "level up" its response to mitigate the impact of the Kanlaon volcano's unrest and potential escalation.

He assured affected citizens that the government is prepared to provide assistance commensurate with the severity of the situation.

Over 45,000 residents have been evacuated from the six-kilometer radius danger zone, with a target of 84,000.

Marcos emphasized the critical role of communication, stating that "The truth will save lives. Fake news will kill."

He also highlighted that effective disaster response is anchored on reliable information.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) would continue issuing round-the-clock advisories in easily understandable language.

Marcos ordered the Department of Budget and Management to release funds, the Department of Social Welfare and Development to provide assistance, and the Department of Health to address illnesses caused by volcanic ash.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has prepared to respond to a worst-case scenario, and units of the Armed Forces, PNP, and BFP in Negros Island have been placed on high alert.
