Marcos Jr. orders long-term Kanlaon eruption response plan

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed government agencies to implement a long-term plan for the safety of residents affected by the Kanlaon Volcano eruption.

A National Task Force on Kanlaon, to be led by the Department of National Defense-Office of Civil Defense (DND-OCD), will be organized to focus on this long-term response.

The plan includes identifying safe evacuation sites and establishing permanent relocation areas for communities near the volcano.

President Marcos emphasized the importance of moving people out of danger zones and constructing substantial evacuation centers.

Discussions are ongoing regarding the precise locations for these evacuation centers, ensuring scientific validity and close collaboration with local governments.

Agencies have been directed to continue supporting affected areas, maintaining good coordination between national and local government units.

Officials from PHIVOLCS reported that the eastern side of Kanlaon Volcano is still inflating and recorded nine tremors in the past 24 hours.
