Indonesia asks PH to hold off on Veloso repatriation announcements

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated that Indonesia requested the Philippine government to refrain from making announcements on Mary Jane Veloso's repatriation until the matter is settled.

Marcos Jr. cited this request when declining to comment on an earlier announcement by an Indonesian official regarding Veloso's potential return to the Philippines before Christmas.

Indonesian Minister for Human Rights and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra had previously said that President Prabowo Subianto advised Veloso's transfer to the Philippines in time for the holidays.

Veloso, who has been imprisoned for over a decade for drug trafficking, maintains her innocence and claims to be a victim of human trafficking.

Bureau of Corrections Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. confirmed that authorities are preparing for Veloso's possible transfer to the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong City.
