Marcos Jr. orders PCG to prioritize fisherfolk safety after China water cannon attack

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has ordered the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to prioritize the safety of Filipino fisherfolk and deploy forces to strategic locations following a recent water cannon attack by China at Sabina Shoal.

The directive came after an incident where Chinese vessels used water cannons against Filipino fishermen, resulting in injuries to three individuals and significant damage to two fishing boats.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro stated that the President's primary concern is the safety of the fishermen, whose lives are often put at risk.

Commodore Jay Tarriela of the PCG confirmed receiving the President's instructions to ensure the protection of the fisherfolk.
