DSWD Sec Gatchalian visits Sorsogon to aid Mt. Bulusan eruption victims

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian visited Sorsogon to assess the needs of families affected by the Mt. Bulusan eruption, following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive.

As of Wednesday morning, the volcanic activity has affected approximately 15,000 families, comprising 75,000 individuals.

Gatchalian assured that the DSWD has sufficient relief goods prepositioned in the Bicol Region to support all affected individuals.

A mobile kitchen has been deployed to Barangay Tughan in Juban, Sorsogon, and food packs have been distributed.

The DSWD is employing a 'whole-of-government approach' to ensure all displaced families are cared for.

Mt. Bulusan first erupted early Monday, producing a steam-driven plume that rose 4,500 meters above the crater.

The volcano erupted for a second time on Tuesday night, spewing ash and steam for more than an hour.
