President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. appointed Angelito "Lito" Magno as the new Officer-in-Charge (OIC) director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Magno, a career official with the NBI since 1991, previously served as Assistant Director for Legal Service.
He was involved in investigating significant cases such as the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, the MT Princess Empress oil spill, and the case of the Socorro Bayanihan Services Inc. (SBSI) president.
Magno replaces retired judge Jaime Santiago, whose resignation was accepted by President Marcos Jr.
Magno's oath of office was administered by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin in Malacañang on Tuesday.
Prior to this appointment, Magno led NBI regional offices in Central Luzon and Northern Mindanao, focusing on human trafficking, organized crime, and fraud.
He was also part of the team that oversaw the operation leading to the arrest of dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo in Indonesia on September 4, 2024.
Magno clarified that he has no pending criminal or administrative cases related to a decades-old botched anti-drug operation in Mandaue City, stating, "From the administrative and criminal cases, everything is over. We won, because if we didn't, I wouldn't be here."
