Marcos Jr. names Lim new SEC chair

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has appointed lawyer Francis Edralin Lim as the new chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), succeeding Emilio Aquino whose term ends on June 5.

Lim, who is a senior legal counsel at ACCRALAW, expressed he is deeply honored and humbled by the trust and confidence placed in him.

He vowed to dedicate his heart and soul to the role, guided by the highest standards of integrity and service for the country's good.

Lim brings extensive experience in corporate and securities law, having previously led the Philippine Stock Exchange as its president and CEO.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin highlighted Lim's significant contributions to investor protection and market transparency.

His leadership is anticipated to bolster investor confidence and foster greater transparency, innovation, and inclusive growth within the Philippine financial sector.

Notably, Lim also served as Rappler's lead counsel in the SEC shutdown case against the media company, which the Court of Appeals later voided in August 2024, stating Rappler was wholly owned and managed by Filipinos.
