Marcos confident P20/kg rice sale sustainable until 2028

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is confident that the government can sustain the sale of P20 per kilogram of rice until the end of his term in 2028.

He aims for the national government to fully fund the 'Benteng Bigas Meron (BBM) Na' initiative, removing the need for contributions from local government units.

The President attributes the sustainability of the program to increasing domestic rice production, which has seen record harvests in recent years.

Marcos believes that higher yields and improved farming techniques, supported by government aid like machinery and research, will continue to lower production costs.

The program currently supplies rice to 51 percent of the Philippine population, with optimism for further expansion.
