Marcos Jr. extends rice import ban to Dec 31, 2025

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has officially extended the ban on rice imports until December 31, 2025, through Executive Order 102.

This measure aims to ensure market stability and protect local farmers from the price pressures caused by imported rice.

The original import ban was first implemented in August and was initially scheduled to end on October 30, 2025.

The ban specifically excludes specialty rice varieties not typically cultivated by local farmers.

Relevant government agencies, including the Departments of Agriculture, Trade and Industry, and Economic, Planning, and Development, are tasked with evaluating the impact of this suspension and will provide recommendations to the President.

Recent data from the Philippine Statistics Authority indicate a significant decline in the average farmgate prices of palay, falling as low as P8 per kilogram in August 2025.
