Marcos Jr. names Econg new Sandiganbayan presiding justice

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Geraldine Faith Econg as the new presiding justice of the anti-graft court, effective January 7.

She succeeded retired Presiding Justice Amparo M. Cabotaje-Tang, who retired on November 7, 2024.

Econg previously chaired the Sandiganbayan's Second Division and was appointed to the court in January 2016 by then-President Benigno S.C. Aquino III.

She also served as presiding judge in Minglanilla, Cebu, and of the Regional Trial Court Branch 9 in Cebu City.

Econg was among the nine nominees for Supreme Court associate justice in 2021 and obtained her law degree from the University of San Carlos.

She is scheduled to retire from the Sandiganbayan in August 2037.
