Marcos: PNP chief sacked for defying Napolcom order

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. confirmed that former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Nicolas Torre III was removed from his post for defying a National Police Commission (Napolcom) order.

The Napolcom resolution, dated August 14, directed the reinstatement of Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez and Lt. Gen. Bernard Banac to their previous positions.

Torre had previously ordered the reassignment of Banac and Nartatez on August 6, switching their posts.

Marcos emphasized that Napolcom has specific powers regarding appointments within the PNP and that Torre did not agree with their directives.

The President stated that Torre's defiance led to his eventual relief, though Marcos maintained he still had confidence in Torre as an officer.
