Mapua extends streak to 3, Hubilla shines anew

Mapua University secured an 86-78 victory over Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

Rookie Chris Hubilla was instrumental in the Cardinals' win, tallying 19 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists, one block, and one steal, and stated he is just a role player who was lucky to help the team win.

Mapua extended their winning streak to three games and improved their record to 9-3, placing them half a game behind tournament leader College of St. Benilde.

Coach Randy Alcantara credited Hubilla for his performance and also acknowledged team captain Clint Escamis for his defensive efforts against Letran shooter Vince Cuajao.

In a subsequent game on Sunday, Hubilla led Mapua to a crucial 58-55 win over his former high school team, San Beda, avenging their first-round loss.

Hubilla scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds against San Beda, stepping up when reigning MVP Clint Escamis was limited to seven points on poor shooting.

Escamis expressed pride in Hubilla's progression, noting his capability to carry the team and his potential to help them reach the Final Four.
