Manila Water expands renewable energy use to 214 facilities

Manila Water has expanded its participation in the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP) by adding 56 more facilities, increasing its total to 214 sites across Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Metro Manila.

These new facilities include 10 from Laguna Water and 45 from Estate Water, with Manila Water Foundation's La Mesa Ecopark becoming the first and largest ecopark fully powered by renewable energy through RAP.

The transition represents a total demand of 1,682 kW, and with this latest switch, Manila Water now sources electricity for over 210 facilities, totaling a demand of 11 megawatts supplied by PrimeRES Energy.

The RAP is a customer-choice program by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) that enables the grouping of end-users to meet thresholds for energy procurement from retail power suppliers.

ERC Director Sharon Montaner stated that Manila Water's participation in RAP demonstrates its commitment to innovation and consumer empowerment, helping pave the way for a more inclusive and resilient energy sector.

Manila Water's President and CEO, Jose Victor Emmanuel de Dios, highlighted the importance of this initiative in enhancing efficiency and managing costs passed on to customers.
