Manila kicks off Chinese New Year with Prosperity Tree lighting

Manila is preparing for Chinese New Year festivities, with events kicking off on Friday night, January 24, 2025, with the lighting of the Prosperity Tree at Binondo Square.

Mayor Honey Lacuna led the ceremony and emphasized Manila Chinatown's significance as a premier tourist destination and its vital role in the city's heritage.

She highlighted Chinatown's historical and cultural contributions, noting it has been a symbol of unity and cooperation among Filipino-Chinese friends for over 430 years.

Lacuna described the Prosperity Tree as a contemporary art piece representing hope, luck, and blessings for the new year, symbolizing the abundant contribution of Manila Chinatown to the city.

The Grand Parade is still scheduled for January 29, starting at 2 p.m. from the old Post Office site.

Events are organized in coordination with the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. and the Manila Chinatown Barangay Organization.
