Manila mayor orders padlocking of construction site over missing permits

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has ordered the padlocking of a construction site for the "Sentro Komunidad de Santa Cruz" project and the seizure of heavy equipment.

The project, located at the corner of Alvarez Street and Rizal Avenue in Manila, is allegedly proceeding without necessary permits from the local government.

Mayor Moreno expressed anger after discovering during an inspection that a basketball court, a day care center, and an office for senior citizens were demolished for the project.

While Moreno attributed the project to Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua, Chua denied involvement, stating the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) implemented the project.

Moreno asserted the project is illegal because it lacked permits and involved the demolition of city-owned properties, prompting complaints from elderly residents.
