Manila drug unit members relieved amid extortion allegations

Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso ordered the relief of the Manila Police District's (MPD) District Drug Enforcement Unit (DDEU) due to allegations of extortion and misconduct.

MPD Acting District Director P/Brig. Gen. Arnold Abad issued the relief order, transferring the unit members to the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit pending investigation.

The complaint was filed by a motorcycle delivery rider, alias Chester, with the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM).

Chester alleged that seven DDEU operatives arrested him and his companion on Tuesday, detained them, took P9,000 from his GCash account, and seized his companion's motorcycle.

The victims claim extortion and illegal detention, though an MPD report suggests the two men were arrested on drug-related charges.

Mayor Domagoso stated, "There is no place for scoundrels in the City of Manila, even within the ranks of the police."
