Man dies waiting for DSWD cash aid

A 40-year-old resident of Hagonoy, Bulacan, Walfredo Ople Catajan Jr., died while waiting to receive P5,625 in emergency cash transfer (ECT) from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Catajan, who had a history of heart ailment, succumbed to acute coronary syndrome while being revived at the Bulacan Medical Center.

The DSWD extended its condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of appropriate support.

DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao reminded the public, especially vulnerable individuals, to send authorized representatives when claiming aid to minimize health risks.

The agency is also considering digitalization to improve its services.
