Malay officials turn away tourists with China travel history from Boracay

Local officials in Malay, Aklan have successfully prevented tourists with recent travel history to China and its territories from entering Boracay Island, despite the ongoing travel ban aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19.

Mayor Frolibar Bautista of Malay town confirmed that 45 Chinese tourists were among those denied entry on Tuesday at a checkpoint in Nabas town.

Bautista clarified that the travel ban applies to individuals of any nationality who have recently visited China, Hong Kong, or Macau, not exclusively Chinese citizens.

The town mayor also reported that two Tunisian tourists were denied entry because their passports indicated recent travel to China.

Since the implementation of strict checkpoints on February 7, a total of 17 foreign tourists have been barred from entering Boracay.

Additionally, 64 Chinese tourists who arrived before the February 2 travel ban are currently in Boracay and are being closely monitored.
