Malate fire displaces 70-100 families, damages 100 houses

A fire in Malate, Manila, on Friday night displaced approximately 70 to 100 families, damaging around 100 houses.

The fire reportedly started from a two-storey residential structure made of light materials on Leveriza Street in Barangay 705, facilitating its rapid spread.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) responded quickly, raising the first alarm at 9:33 p.m. and the second alarm shortly after.

The fire was declared under control by 10:50 p.m. and extinguished around 12:03 a.m. on Saturday, October 4.

The estimated property damage is still under investigation, with previous reports pegging it at ₱500,000.

No injuries or fatalities were reported, and the local government unit established a temporary evacuation center for affected residents.
