Palace warns politicians against ECBS misuse

Malacañang has warned politicians against using the Emergency Cell Broadcast System (ECBS) for political campaigning, stating that such misuse is illegal and could lead to serious consequences.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized that the ECBS is strictly for public safety during emergencies like earthquakes and typhoons.

Castro stated in Filipino, "Let us not abuse the emergency cell broadcast system. This should not be exploited by anyone for personal gain."

Investigations into the alleged misuse of the ECBS have been launched by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has also condemned the reported use of the ECBS for political purposes.

Any individual or group found to have violated the law through ECBS misuse will face legal action.
