Makati City has increased the annual cash incentives for its senior citizens by P1,000, starting this July, through a new ordinance signed by Mayor Abby Binay.
The enhanced Blu Card benefits will provide eligible elderly residents with higher cash gifts, distributed in two tranches.
Seniors aged 60-69 will receive P4,000 annually, those 70-79 will get P5,000, and those 80-89 will receive P6,000.
Older seniors, aged 90-99, will now receive P11,000, and those 101 years and above will get P12,000.
However, to receive incentives for the 90-99 and 101+ age brackets, a senior citizen must be a Blu Card holder for at least five years, as certified by the Makati Social Welfare Department.
Those who do not meet this five-year requirement will only receive P6,000, the same as the 80-89 age group.
Centenarians will continue to receive a one-time P100,000 gift and a plaque.
Mayor Binay stated that the increase is intended to assist senior citizens in managing the rising cost of living.
