Makabayan bloc seeks probe on BuCor abuses

Makabayan bloc lawmakers have filed a House resolution calling for a joint congressional inquiry into alleged human rights violations and abusive practices by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

The resolution specifically targets alleged abuses at the New Bilibid Prison and the Correctional Institution for Women.

Key issues raised include a pattern of abuse, denial of necessities, arbitrary restrictions, and violations of due process rights within the penal system.

A recent incident highlighted is the permanent ban imposed on Kapatid spokesperson and human rights advocate Fides Lim.

Lawmakers argue that BuCor's actions, particularly against marginalized political prisoners, infringe upon the dignity of individuals deprived of liberty and violate their basic human rights.
