Magnolia trades Abueva for Navarro in 3-player PBA deal

Magnolia Hotshots acquired forward William Navarro from NorthPort Batang Pier in a three-player deal approved by the PBA.

In exchange for Navarro, Magnolia sent veteran forward Calvin Abueva, guard Jerrick Balanza, and a second-round pick in the PBA Season 51 rookie draft to NorthPort.

Magnolia coach Chito Victolero described dealing Calvin Abueva as "one of the toughest decisions we've had to make," but emphasized the need to "think about the future of the team."

Navarro, who averaged 20.57 points, 10.57 rebounds, 1.86 assists, and 1.14 steals in the Philippine Cup, will bolster the league-leading Magnolia squad.

The Hotshots, currently at a 7-1 record and the only team with a sure playoff spot, aim to improve their title chances with Navarro's addition.

Navarro will reunite with former Ateneo de Manila University teammate Zav Lucero, as Magnolia aims to end a seven-year championship drought.
