Magnitude 6.7 earthquake strikes off Davao Oriental coast

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental on Wednesday morning, January 7.

The tremor occurred at 11:02 a.m., 47 kilometers southeast of Manay, with a depth of 47 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.

Intensity II shaking was felt in Davao City and Instrumental Intensity IV in Malungon, Sarangani.

Several aftershocks have been recorded, including a magnitude 6.4 tremor.

Higher intensities were reported in Manay, Davao Oriental (V); Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (V); and Talacogon, Agusan del Sur (V).

Phivolcs confirmed there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake.

Damage and aftershocks are expected following the earthquake.
