Magnitude 5.6 quake jolts Samar, Leyte; no damage reported

A magnitude 5.6 tectonic earthquake struck 15 kilometers southeast of Calbiga, Samar, at 12:57 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2023.

Intensity V tremors were felt in Borongan City, Eastern Samar, and in Calbiga and Catbalogan City, Samar.

The quake was also felt at Intensity IV in various parts of Leyte and Eastern Samar, including Tacloban City.

Phivolcs warned that damages and aftershocks could be expected.

Phivolcs reported the earthquake occurred at a depth of 72 kilometers.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines reported that power transmission services remained normal after the quake, with no reported damage to facilities or power interruptions.

No damage was reported in Calbiga, Samar, although municipal employees rushed outside the building due to the strong tremors.
