LTO to ban e-trikes, e-bikes on major Metro Manila roads starting Jan 2

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will begin enforcing the ban on e-trikes and e-bikes on major thoroughfares in Metro Manila starting January 2, 2026.

This prohibition includes key roads such as Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), C-5 Road, Roxas Boulevard, and the stretch from Quirino Avenue to Magallanes - South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao stated that the ban is due to safety concerns, as these major roads are designed for faster and larger vehicles, making them unsuitable for slower and lighter e-trikes.

Lacanilao emphasized that the measure is for the safety of all road users, citing the fast-moving traffic, vehicle volume, and wideness of these roads as potential dangers.

The LTO is committed to working with LGUs and industry sectors to establish safe routes for e-trikes, and the public is urged to cooperate with the new regulations.
