LTO suspends truck driver's license over fatal crash

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended a truck driver's license for 90 days following a fatal road crash in Mabitac, Laguna on August 29.

The incident occurred when the truck allegedly lost its brakes, crashed into a house, killing a 65-year-old fruit vendor and injuring two pedestrians.

The truck driver is facing a show-cause order from the LTO to explain his actions, including allegedly jumping out of the vehicle before the crash.

The registered owner of the truck has also been summoned to explain their responsibility in employing a reckless driver and to provide maintenance records for the vehicle.

LTO Chief Atty. Vigor Mendoza emphasized the agency's strict enforcement of laws concerning trucks, citing issues like worn-out tires and overloading, and the importance of surprise inspections to ensure road safety compliance.
