LTO intensifies crackdown on colorum vehicles nationwide

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is intensifying its nationwide crackdown on colorum or unregistered vehicles following a directive from the DOTr.

LTO Chief Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II has instructed all regional directors to conduct regular visibility and special operations, coupled with enhanced intelligence gathering.

The goal is to proactively identify and apprehend colorum vehicles and their common routes, as operators have escalated their illegal activities.

Mendoza stressed the strict implementation of filing criminal cases against apprehended individuals.

He also reaffirmed that impounded vehicles require a court order for release, even after fines are paid.

Hundreds of colorum vehicles, ranging from motorcycles to vans, are apprehended monthly.

A recent conviction in an Iloilo City court saw a colorum van operator sentenced after being caught driving the vehicle in Antique province.
