LTFRB processes 1,413 special bus permits for holiday travel

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is processing 1,413 applications for special permits for passenger buses to accommodate the expected surge in travelers during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

LTFRB chairman Vigor Mendoza II stated that the review process aims to ensure only buses passing roadworthiness inspections receive these permits.

He emphasized the importance of having sufficient buses available, even if it means issuing more special permits, to prevent passengers from being stranded.

The number of special permit applications this year has increased to 1,413, a rise from 1,003 in 2024 and 1,174 in 2023.

These special permits will cover operations from December 15 to January 16, 2026, for buses plying 116 routes nationwide.
