LRT-1, LRT-2, MRT-3 offer free rides on Independence Day

The Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), LRT-2, and Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) will offer free rides on June 12 to commemorate the Philippines' 127th Independence Day.

The free rides will be available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. across all stations for these train lines.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced the free service, with the LRT-1 and LRT-2 offerings confirmed via Facebook posts.

Light Rail Transit Authority Administrator Atty. Hernando Cabrera stated the free rides are a sign of gratitude and a commemoration of freedom.

The MRT-3's decision aligns with a directive from President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to ease transportation costs and promote appreciation for national occasions.

This initiative aims to lighten the financial burden on commuters and foster greater appreciation for significant national events.

The Philippines declared its independence from Spain on June 12, 1898.
