LPA may become tropical depression Bising by Friday night

A low pressure area (LPA) being monitored by PAGASA has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression, potentially by Friday night.

If it intensifies, the weather disturbance will be named 'Bising', the second storm to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this year.

As of Friday morning, the LPA was located 125 kilometers north-northwest of Calayan, Cagayan.

Heavy rains between 100 to 200 millimeters are expected over Ilocos Norte from Thursday evening to Friday evening, and over Batanes from Friday evening to Saturday evening.

Moderate to heavy rains of 50 to 100 millimeters are also anticipated in several areas including Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, and Ilocos Norte.

The prevailing southwest monsoon (Habagat) will also bring heavy to intense rains over Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan, and moderate to heavy rains over Metro Manila and other Luzon provinces.

Residents in affected areas are warned of potential flooding and landslides.
