Lost Sabungeros nominated for Best Documentary at 48th Gawad Urian Awards

GMA Public Affairs' investigative documentary film "Lost Sabungeros" has earned a nomination for Best Documentary at the upcoming 48th Gawad Urian Awards.

The film delves into the significant scandal involving the disappearance of more than 30 Filipino cockfighters since 2021.

"Lost Sabungeros" will contend against four other documentaries for the prestigious award, including Ramona Diaz's "And So It Begins," "Alipato at Muog," "Home of the Brave," and "Undefended: On Asia's Most Dangerous Place for Environmental Defenders."

GMA Pictures' "Green Bones" has garnered eight Gawad Urian nominations, including Best Actor nods for Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid.

The winners for the 48th Gawad Urian Awards are scheduled to be revealed at the awarding ceremony on October 11.

Earlier this year, "Lost Sabungeros" was also recognized internationally when it was shortlisted in the Documentary category for Investigative Journalism at the 2025 New York TV & Film Awards.

The documentary premiered at the QCinema International Film Festival in November 2024, followed by a talkback session involving the production team and the families of the missing sabungeros.
